Mrs. Thompson was confined to her bed at the time of the fire and her daughter, Mrs. Gipsey Holt, owner of the ill fated house and grandmother of Melinda Sue, had brought the baby over to the house when she discovered the fire in an adjacent room. Walker assembled a coroners jury, who found that the victims met with accidental death. Member of the jury were: M. H. Dooley, W. A. Grub, Ernest Muncey, Fire Chief Leon Compton, Monroe Hughes, and Carmie Wilson. The remains were taken to the Young Funeral Home.
